What We Do

Unlock Innovation with Reverse Engineering

3D scanning uses advanced structured-light and laser technology to capture the precise geometry of physical objects, producing accurate digital models that can be inspected, modified, reproduced, or fed directly into a manufacturing workflow.

When original drawings or CAD files no longer exist, 3D scanning makes reverse engineering fast and reliable. Scan an existing component, reconstruct its geometry, and recreate or improve it, whether for a discontinued spare part, a mold and casting workflow, or a performance upgrade.

At 3D Specialist, we use the professional Peel 3D scanner to deliver mesh data and surface models across seven industries, from automotive tuning and MRO engineering to healthcare, heritage preservation, and product design. Every scan is cleaned, aligned, and exported in the format your workflow requires.

How It Works

The Scanning Process

Step 01
Step 1, Scan the object with Peel 3D scanner

Scan the Object

We use the professional portable Peel 3D scanner to capture the object from all required angles. The scanner acquires millions of data points, accurately recording every surface detail, curve, and geometry, regardless of complexity or size.

Step 02
Step 2, Finalize and clean up the 3D mesh

Finalize the Mesh

Raw scan data is processed using professional software, points are aligned, noise is removed, holes are filled, and the mesh is refined. The result is a clean, watertight polygon mesh ready for reverse engineering, inspection, or direct export.

Step 03
Step 3, Export 3D scan file in your preferred format

Export & Deliver

We export the finalized scan in your required format, STL, OBJ, PLY, STEP, IGES, or native CAD files. Outputs are compatible with all major reverse engineering, 3D modeling, and manufacturing software tools used in industry today.

Our Workflow

From Object to Digital Asset

Step 01

Submit Your Brief

Tell us about the object you need scanned, size, material, intended use of the scan data, and any dimensional accuracy requirements.

Step 02

Scanning Session

We scan your object at our facility or on-site. Our Peel 3D scanner captures full geometry in a single session for most parts.

Step 03

Processing & Modelling

Scan data is cleaned, meshed, and, where required, converted into a parametric CAD model ready for modification or production.

Step 04

Delivery & Support

Files are delivered in your chosen format with a review session to confirm accuracy and answer any questions before handoff.

Why Choose Us

Scanning You Can Build On

Our scans aren't just data, they're the starting point for real engineering work. Every file we deliver is optimized for its next step, whether that's CAD modeling, 3D printing, or CNC machining.

Contact our team

Our Peel 3D scanner handles objects from small mechanical components (a few centimetres) up to large assemblies and vehicle body panels. For very large or immovable objects, we can perform on-site scanning at your premises. Contact us with dimensions and we'll confirm suitability before quoting.

We export in all major formats including STL, OBJ, PLY, STEP, IGES, and native CAD formats compatible with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, CATIA, and others. Just let us know which software your team uses and we'll deliver in the most compatible format.

Yes. In addition to delivering the raw mesh, we offer a full scan-to-CAD service, converting the mesh into a parametric solid model with features, datums, and tolerances. This is ideal when you need to modify the geometry, run FEA simulation, or generate technical drawings for production.

The Peel 3D scanner delivers volumetric accuracy of ±0.1mm and a resolution of up to 0.5mm. This is sufficient for the vast majority of reverse engineering, mold design, and inspection applications. For extremely tight-tolerance metrology work, we can discuss CMM-based inspection as an alternative or complement.

Absolutely. This is one of our most common workflows, scan an existing part, reverse-engineer it in CAD, then print a replacement or improved version using our in-house 3D printing service. We can handle the full pipeline in a single order, with one point of contact throughout.
